DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRY

Position Summary: The Director of Music Ministry reports to the President of the Parish Council and is responsible to grow, develop, and lead a choir and cantor team that engages the congregation in a worshipful musical experience. The position requires availability on Sunday mornings, one weeknight evening rehearsal, and special services as needed. This individual is also part of the worship planning team.
We are looking for someone who has:

A love and understanding of Orthodox liturgical music; familiarity with Ukrainian Orthodox worship is a strong asset.

Choral conducting experience and the ability to teach vocal parts effectively.

Strong piano skills.

Proficiency in reading Church Slavonic.

English- and Ukrainian-language competency also required.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to build community through music.

Availability for Sunday mornings, once-weekly rehearsals, and additional special services throughout the church year.
Key Responsibilities:

Direct and grow the church choir, rooted in the Ukrainian Orthodox a cappella tradition.

Lead weekly choir rehearsals. Piano competency is required.

Nurture and welcome new singers, promoting choir fellowship and musical development.

Select appropriate liturgical music in consultation with the priest, aligned with the Orthodox liturgical calendar.

Ensure that music resources are managed in full accordance with Canadian and international copyright law.

Coordinate cantor/reader assignments as needed.

Ensure music is accessible and well-prepared for all services.

Provide musical leadership during church services, including voice placement and choral direction.

Oversee care and organization of church music materials and archives.

Submit a budget of all music related expenses for approval and purchase music and music supplies within approved budget.
